Sniffle, Sniffle, Cough, Cough

It’s been coming on for a few days now, but this morning I woke up with a full-fledged cold.  I feel like I should be in a commercial about stuffy heads and fevers.  Oh, and my throat hurts too.

Needless to say, I did not make it to church this morning.  Instead, I slept in, and my very nice husband brought me my favorite ice-cold caffeine delivery system:  diet Dr. Pepper on his way home from a Sam’s run.  That and a couple of Advil cold tablets had me feeling up to getting dressed and watching Reign Over Me with him.  We’ve had it forever from Netflix but hadn’t gotten around to watching it.  While I did find it a bit depressing, I have to say I enjoyed the movie overall.  Adam Sandler doesn’t get the credit he deserves for his serious roles.

Dancer Girl had Odyssey of the Mind practice this afternoon, so after we picked her up the family did make it to see August Rush.  We all liked it, though it was quite different from our first weekend pick, Enchanted.  Most of the reviews say that August Rush is sappy, sentimental and contrived.  I can’t totally disagree with that, but it was perfect for a rainy Sunday afternoon. Plus, it has Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who I’ve enjoyed watching since Bend It Like Beckham.  One criticism I have of the movie is that he gets too little screen time.

We stopped by one of our favorite local places for hamburgers on the way home, and now I’m going to enjoy another fire in the fireplace and take some more cold medicine before bed.  Hopefully, I’ll feel better in the morning.

We watched that same movie last night! Yes, it was depressing, but it was good.

  2. Can I send you some homemade chicken soup when I return The Birthday Party to you? Feel better soon.
