Several times today I thought, “I should really get some things done around here.” Then I managed to talk myself out of such nonsense. The ice just kept coming down last night and today, so we have several inches of accumulation on the ground…no snow, just ice. The roads are terrible, and everything from sporting events to church tomorrow has been called off. This is clearly my chance to just hang out and relax, so I took full advantage of the opportunity.
We slept in this morning; then I made pancakes for brunch. Swim Chick, Gym Girl, and I watched She’s The Man, a poor modern adaptation of Twelfth Night. It was right up the preteens’ ally, though, and provided some good bonding time. Soccer Boy spent a lot of the day going back and forth between houses with his friend from across the street. I was a bit productive between movie watching, Internet surfing, and catching up on all my recorded television shows and finished the draft of the PowerPoint for my February presentation.
We’ve just finished a dinner of tortellini carbonara, which is quick and easy and a kid-pleaser, and now Soccer Boy is settled in watching Cars while the girls play Dance Dance Revolution upstairs. I’m wavering between more pointless television watching and starting a new book. The book will probably win out. With the weather forecast predicting another wave of ice tomorrow, I’m betting on having another day or two to do the stuff I normally would have had to take care of today.
Here’s that pasta recipe if you’re interested.
1 family size package refrigerated cheese-filled tortellini
6 slices bacon
1 Tbsp. olive oil
1 tsp. chopped garlic
1 tsp. vinegar
1/2 c. heavy cream
2/3 c. shredded Parmesan cheese
course ground black pepper
Prepare bacon and cook tortellini. Saute garlic in olive oil for 1 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vinegar. Set aside. Drain pasta and stir in garlic mixture. Tear bacon into bite size pieces and add to pasta. Add remaining ingredients and stir. Serve with garlic bread sticks and green salad.
