Move 2008–Week 15

Wow, we’re 15 weeks into the year?  How did that happen?  It’s amazing how time flies when you’re not exactly meeting your New Year’s resolutions.  Back when TPGoddess issued her Move 2008 challenge, I said I’d do three toning and three cardio workouts per week.  And, I’ve yet to hit that goal.

But, I have been working out regularly with my trainer now for a couple of months.  I’m finally seeing some results, getting stronger and feeling more toned–particularly in my arms and legs.  I realize now, though, that I’ve got to get back on track with my eating if I’m really going to make my goal for summer.  I’d like to lose around ten pounds by then.  Quite doable if I’ll actually count my Weight Watchers points.  Is anyone else bitter about the fact that exercise alone doesn’t seem to do it for weight control as you get older?

So, my report for the week is that I did indeed clock the three toning sessions–two with the trainer and a Pilates class on Saturday.  I also count my hour-long workouts with the trainer as cardio because we do intervals and really get the heart rate going.  So, I have two sessions in that column as well.  So close to goal!  I’m planning on hitting the gym tomorrow for some general cardio, so I think I have a chance of actually reporting full success next week.  Hopefully I’ll have some weight loss to report as well.

Move 2008–Week 4

Ah, it’s time for the weekly Move 2008 check-in. Week 4, though nearing Week 3 in general stress levels, went far better in terms of diet and exercise.  I achieved my cardio goal with three sessions totalling 120 minutes and 7.15 miles.  I also did one toning session, coming in two short of my goal.  Ah, opportunities for improvement.

I was also amazed to find that when one does exercise and actually keep to one’s recommended Weight Watchers point allotment, one does lose weight.  I’m down 1.4 lbs. this week.

It’s a good thing.  I needed the inspiration to stay on track and make it to the gym again tomorrow!

Move 2008–Week 3

As you might have gathered from my posts on leaving my child at daycare and our crazy sports schedule, last week will not go down in my books (or blog for that matter) as a stellar one.  My progress on Move 2008 reflects this with a measly 2.17 miles logged in one cardio session.  No toning sessions logged at all.

But, another week begins today.  I braved the Weight Watchers weigh-in and duly recorded both my .2 lb. loss for the week and my food consumed for the day.  I hope to have better results for Week 4!

Move 2008–Week 2

Well I did a bit better on meeting my goal of three cardio sessions and three toning sessions per week this week, logging in two of each for 4.25 miles of treadmill and 60 minutes of Pilates.  Still not what I’m aiming for, but moving, no pun intended, in the right direction.

What I learned last week is that my planned Monday, Wednesday, Friday pre-work gym visits are not going to be my best option.  Motivation was quite low on Friday, and that’s the morning hitting the snooze alarm won out over getting to the gym.  I’ve decided to try a Tuesday through Thursday schedule this week.

My Weight Watchers program went a bit better.  I’ve logged a 2 lb. loss this week.  It would have been even better if I’d staved off some of the temptations this weekend.  But, overall, I’d say Week 2 has been a success!

And The Beat Goes On

Or I’m beat anyway.  Today brought a non-stop schedule that reminded me my recent vacation is very much over.

People often ask me, “So, what do you do anyway?”  I’m too tired to do much else except make a list, so my day in a glance:

  • Talked to two principals regarding issues at their school sites
  • Met with office staff to discuss performance expectations
  • Discussed proposal from local university to do research in our district
  • Signed paperwork, reviewed several projects completed by assistant
  • Developed list of proposed participants for district-wide meeting
  • Met with director of professional development to clarify details for upcoming teacher professional day
  • Participated in conference call with other members of a national steering committee on which I serve
  • Met with director of assessment for weekly update
  • Chaired back-to-back meetings regarding the gifted and talented program–first the parent advisory committee, then the district coordinators’ meeting
  • Held impromptu meeting with director of curriculum regarding issue that had come up during the day as well as several ideas generated at GT meetings

I did eat both lunch and breakfast at my desk somewhere along the way.  I am proud to say that two days in to my re-dedication to Weight Watchers I am on track.  Hungry, but on track.  Yes, I know I’m not supposed to be hungry, but it just reflects my recent lack of control regarding portion sizes.  I have to readjust.

On top of all the work above, I also had a Junior League meeting to chair tonight.  My committee’s proposal is due on Monday, so we were very focused on getting all the final details ironed out.  We’re on track to meet that deadline, but that didn’t keep the meeting short tonight.  Two hours later, I finally made it home.

Where, of course, there were crises over final exams to be dealt with (Dancer Girl), laundry to be done (Gym Girl), and bedtime songs to be sung (Soccer Boy).  I am looking forward to tomorrow, which looks to be a calmer day on all fronts.
